Wow! Just wow. I have to stop sometimes and think about how grateful I am for how things work in life. Growing up, I envisioned a lot with music, many things in which I'd toss to the side and forget about. I figured, "Bah, that's crazy, nevermind."
So when things like this happen, I almost feel like a 'poser' HA! I barely have my bachelor's... IN PSYCHOLOGY. It feels like I shouldn't have these opportunities, like there are more intellectual people out there who could say so much more than me. And one worry I have, is that I hope people don't think I'm a one-trick pony in my writing. I love blending music and my story with my points, but I try so hard to make it all different each time.
This one is about mine and Tani's "Mastincala" project, particularly the last song "The Deer With 3" Or "Tahcha Yamni" if you're of the Ochethi Sakowin. I'll let it speak for itself, but overall it's about how both of our art attempts to disrupt concepts of contemporary and traditional for Native art. We aim to instead show something totally different, that's cogniscent of the two, and thus this project came to be.
It means a lot to me that this work could be on something like Borderlands. A special Wopida Tanka to Justin DeLeon (check out his article by clicking HERE) for inviting me to be on this, and shouts out to all of the other contributors on this issue.
